A community speaks out on their mayor's resignation

BECKLEY (WVVA) – A local mayor's resignation is causing a stir in the city.

Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh plans to step down at the end of this year.  This is following the West Virginia Ethics Commission investigation on nine alleged violations.

Still Pugh maintains his innocence.

Some people in Raleigh County say, guilty or innocent, it's time to move on.

"Beckley has an outstanding council group that can do what has to be done.  I believe at this point [Mayor Pugh's] being here is more of a stumbling block than help," says Mary Bowyer of Raleigh County.

There will be room for remarks from the public at Beckley's Common Council Meeting Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. inside City Hall.
