New traveling wall honors WV fallen soldiers

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va (WVVA)-- West Virginia's Vietnam veterans honor their fallen comrades in White Sulphur Springs.

The WV Vietnam Veterans of America's new traveling wall made its debut Friday at the Memorial Park in town.

The wall has 732 names, listing all the West Virginians killed in the Vietnam War. It also recognizes prisoners of war and those missing in action.

Veterans say this is all about coming together and remembering those who gave their lives.

Dave Simmons, State President of the Vietnam Veterans of America's West Virginia State Council said, "This is for their families to come back and make peace."

He added that the wall would be up overnight Friday, as well as into Saturday, because many Vietnam vets find it difficult to see it in daylight.

The WV VVA also hopes to recruit more members and help families heal, as the memories of Vietnam never leave them.
