Horse struck, killed by vehicle in Tazewell County

POUNDING MILL Va. (WVVA) - A runaway horse was struck and killed by a vehicle in Tazewell County Wednesday morning.

Trooper Patton with the Claypool Hill detachment of the Virginia State Police said the accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the eastbound lane of Route 19/460 -- near the Limestone Road intersection -- after three horses broke through a gate at their owner's farm.

One horse was killed and another was injured. The third horse was unharmed.

The driver of the minivan was unharmed.

The surviving horses are now back in the custody of their owner. Patton said the owner was contacting a veterinarian regarding the injured horse.
