Bluefield breaks ground on first step of downtown redevelopment

BLUEFIELD (WVVA) - The City of Bluefield broke ground on the first step of an ambitious downtown redevelopment plan Friday.

Community leaders joined U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall for the official groundbreaking of the Rail and Coal Heritage Interpretive Walkway project along Princeton Avenue in Bluefield.

Rahall delivered keynote remarks following the groundbreaking at the Bluefield Area Arts Center.

The interpretive walkway will tell the story of Bluefield's rail history through seven interpretive panels.

The panel's will chronicle Bluefield's story through the coming of the railroad to the recently completed Heartland Corridor project.
