MERCER CO. (WVVA) - Dustie Beller was on trial for running over a woman with her car all for chainsaw. SHADY SPRINGS (WVVA) -- Think you know West Virginia?  A group of eighth graders might be able to school you.

The Shady Springs Middle School History Bowl team beat out 23 other teams across the state for the championship bowl this year.

Thursday, the school and West Virginia leaders came together to celebrate this victory.

Even though the MVP from the whole competition was a SSMS student, he says it was a group effort and a lot of hard, but interesting work.

"It's just such an interesting state. It came out of the most turbulent time in America's history during the Civil War, and it's just such an important state. It helped end the civil war and [form] this country," says Ryan Young, MVP.

Team members hope next year's eighth graders will be able to carry on the title.
