Golf tournament raises money for local deputy sheriff's association

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)- Deputies put away their pistols in favor of putters Wednesday for the Greenbrier County Deputy Sheriff's Association Golf Tournament at the Lewisburg Elks Country Club.

Police as well as community members are competing not just for the win, but other great prizes including a car for the first hole-in-one.

The Greenbrier County Sheriff's Association would like to thank those involved in volunteering and helping them raise money, as well as community members and groups who sponsored the event.

Deputies say the event is a good way to raise money for the community they serve and protect.

"It lets people realize that police officers are humans too," said Corporal Todd Williams. "At the same time, the money will go toward scholarships for kids. We just want to be able to give back."

Cpl. Williams said the money will also be used for other community events like Shop with a Cop that the deputies do each year.

This is the first ever Deputy Sheriff's Association golf tournament in the county. Organizers hope to make it an annual tradition.
