The Eureka Project, a new teaching technique, hits local schools

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Plan, do, study, act.  Those are the four steps in a new teaching technique being tested in Raleigh County.

The Eureka Project, developed by local entrepreneurs at Vaught Inc., is a hands on approach to learning.  Instructors say it teaches students leadership and teamwork, lessons that couldn't be conducted in your average math class.

Wednesday, students at Stanaford Elementary had to work together to stack three cardboard boxes, but stay out of a big circle around them.

"We're hoping we can model non-traditional teaching techniques where kids learn by accident. We give them a project. They learn the physics associated with it. They learn the teamwork that's necessary to do that. So although they're working on a relatively simple project, the technique is somewhat complex," says Chris Vaught, developer of The Eureka Project.
