First responders celebrate National EMS Week

BLUEFIELD, W.Va (WVVA) -- In honor of National EMS week, the Bluefield Rescue Squad held a cook out Wednesday for first responders and their families.

The squad grilled out steak and chicken for everyone who came out to eat.

EMS crews say this week recognizes the services they provide 24/7. They say it also gives the public a chance to be reminded that first responders are always available to help their communities.

The Air Evac Life Team from Logan County also flew their helicopter to Bluefield to take part in the festivities. They landed at the Bluefield, West Virginia Rescue Squad where a crowd of people welcomed their arrival.
