McDowell County mayor wants money for a town police officer

Posted:

The mayor of a McDowell County town says she's fearful for her town's safety.

Keystone Mayor Tishie Myers came to town hall Tuesday afternoon to share her concerns with a staff member of Senator Joe Manchin as part of the Senator's "Commonsense Connections" week.

Mayor Myers is hoping Senator Manchin can help get funding for either a part-time or full-time police officer.

She says the drug problem in the area is why she wants an officer in town.

"We don't have any police protection. We have to call on the state troopers or the deputy sheriff out of Welch to back us up if any crime is committed or sort of look in on us periodically," says Mayor Myers.

During the "Common Sense Connections" tour, a staff member of Senator Manchin listens to the concerns of people and assigns it to another member of the staff.

We'll let you know if the town of Keystone gets their police officer.
