HINTON (WVVA) - An arson charge against a Summers County man accused of setting the fire that destroyed a row of apartments in Hinton has been dropped.

Billy Gill appeared in court Friday where the arson charge was dropped due to inconclusive evidence by the fire marshal.

Gill may be re-charged in the apartment fires if further evidence warrants.

Gill still faces another arson charge and two counts of attempted murder for a separate house fire that began shortly before the fire at the Brick Row apartments on the morning of Feb. 26.

Gill's cousin and her boyfriend were inside the home on 5th Avenue when the fire occurred. According to the criminal complaint, Gill's cousin stated he had been at the home prior to the fire, requesting entrance.

Gill is scheduled to stand trial on the remaining charges in July.

WVVA News was in court for Gill's appearance Friday and spoke to his attorney following the decision. See more throughout the day on WVVA.com and WVVA News at 5 and 6.
