Va. State police honor fallen troopers

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police held a ceremony to honor 59 troopers who died including a trooper with Tazewell County ties.

The annual memorial service gave special recognition to two troopers who were killed since October.

Trooper Andrew D. Fox was killed while directing traffic on special assignment in Hanover County on Oct. 5.

Fox was a native of Tazewell County who previously served with the Tazewell police department. He was survived by his wife, Ginny, mother, father, sister and half-brother, who were all in attendance for the ceremony. Additional extended family as well as troopers from Area 24 office in Dublin and Area 48 in Springfield were also in attendance.

Master Trooper Junius A. Walker was fatally shot March 7 by a motorist on the shoulder of Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County.

The service was held at the Virginia State Police Gymnasium in Chesterfield County.

Senator Puckett served at the ceremony's keynote speaker.
