W.Va. groups share funds for water quality checks

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Ten groups are sharing $40,000 in funds from the West Virginia Water Research Institute.

The institute is part of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy at West Virginia University.

Officials say the funding will help support volunteer water quality monitoring and data collection in streams and tributaries of the Monongahela River as part of the larger regional monitoring program.

The institute that was founded in 1967 is funded through the U.S. Geological Survey. It serves as a statewide vehicle for performing research related to water issues
