ALDERSON (WVVA) -Age has its privileges and one of them is being declared a "Centenarian of the Town of Alderson."
On Sunday, May 5, Mayor Travis Copenhaver visited Mrs. Florine Williams and Mrs. Louise Utterback to present them with Resolutions from the Council and Mayor of Alderson.

Both turned 100 this year.

Mrs. Williams said, "I am blessed to have a sharp mind still." and attributed her longevity to "the Lord's will." She recalled living on the family farm on what is now Big Branch Road where she watched the boys from Camp Greenbrier march past on their way to camp overnight on Keeney's Knob.  Mayor Copenhaver said, "It is an honor to have you in our town and we wanted to recognize you for your 100 years."

Mrs. Utterback said, "I just live day by day" when asked how she liked being over 100 years old.  Mayor Copenhaver said, "You touched the lives of so many as a teacher here in Alderson. It is an honor to be able to recognize your age."

Mrs Lena Ratliff was also recognized by the Mayor and Council for attaining the age of 100.  She will be presented with her certificate at a later date.  Mayor Copenhaver said, "It is a big deal to reach 100.  I hope many more of our citizens attain this age.  Please let me know when that happens because we would like to recognize them."

Recorder Betty Thomas and Council Member Ann Eskins joined Mayor Copenhaver for the presentations.
