Psychiatric, detox facility planned in Maxwelton

MAXWELTON, W. Va (WVVA)-- Health professionals are finalizing plans for a psychiatric and detox center in Greenbrier County.

Seneca Health Services is working on the project, which includes a completely new building on Industrial Park Road in Maxwelton. The area is currently an empty lot.

The center will hold 12 beds, and include a crisis stabilization and detox center which will offer counseling and medical care to people suffering from addiction to drugs, mainly alcohol and opiates.

Organizers said this kind of facility is especially necessary for those who have no other way to kick the habit.

"Part of the opiate dependence is, the withdrawal is very painful," said Marcie Vaughan, Vice President of Clinical Services at Seneca Health Services. "Individuals may be tempted to use again in lieu of continuing in treatment."

According to Vaughan, there is nothing like this serving patients in the county, and it's much needed.

"Through the comfort measures of the crisis detox unit, we increase [patients'] chances of success," she said.

Vaughan added that having a facility like this within the county where patients can be close to family also helps their success rate.

Patients will be served at the facility on a voluntary basis.

The center is scheduled to open next November, and could create nearly 20 jobs in the area.
