Local woman wins national assisted living award

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- A local woman is honored with a national assisted living award.

Deborah Martin at The Seasons assisted living facility in Lewisburg has won a "Hero" award from the Assisted Living Federation of America.

Debbie is from Meadow Bridge and says she really enjoys her work at The Seasons. She tells WVVA that it's very rewarding.

The Hero award honors people who are ideal role models in the industry, inspiring and positively impacting their workplace.

Former First Lady Laura Bush will present Debbie with her award at a ceremony next week.

Debbie told WVVA she's appreciative of the recognition.

"At first it was really shocking," Debbie said. "But naturally it's an honor."

But she remains humble about the award. "We all do what we do and enjoy it," she said. "[I didn't do] anything special."

Debbie added that the people she works with and for at The Seasons give so much back to her, and she cares about them all very much.

Nathan A. Hanshew, Executive Director of Genesis Health Care, The Seasons, said, "We are extremely proud of Debbie and her receipt of this award. She is a tremendous person and gives so much to what she does in this industry."

He said Debbie is very deserving of the honor and is excited for her "opportunity to shine on a national level."
