PEMBROKE Va. (WVVA) --When the doors reopen at the Mountain Lake Lodge, management is hoping to offer guests the ultimate chance to escape.

"The new Mountain Lake Lodge is a focus on connecting families with their kids, and connecting families to nature," said Heidi Stone.

The lodge lies in the heart of a 2,600 acre nature preserve, and one of its new additions gives visitors an exciting way to explore.  Construction is underway for the "Aerial & Zip Line Adventure Course and Kids Kamp."

Stone adds, "It's a multifaceted course, so it's not just a zipline, it's going to have a kids course, plus two adventures courses and it is built in the trees. So there are all different kinds of components it's going to have a zip line and swinging bridges. It'll take about 2.5 hours for the average person to go through the course."

The center piece of the lodge is the lake itself.

Spring water fed, Mountain Lake, experiences natural drain cycles which causes it to lose depth as a result impacting tourism.  But now that the sink holes have been filled with natural materials, those low water levels will soon be history.

Just one month ago the lake was completely empty. Now it's well on its way back to its normal state, as one million gallons of water each day, rush back into the lake.

"We had to pump it dry to fix it, it'll take 500 million gallons to fill it, which we expect to happen by next summer," said Stone.

The lake isn't the only reason people flock to the lodge.

Parts of the 1980's movie 'Dirty Dancing' were filmed at Mountain Lake.  Baby's cabin, the gazebo, and Mary's Barn are some of the most recognizable structures.

Today the lodge continues to offer fans a way to connect to the film, Stone says.

"We are definatley still tipping our hat to 'Dirty Dancing.' We have three Dirty Dancing weekends each year."

Whether your goal is an outdoor escape or to reconnect with family, management hopes the newly renovated lodge will offer guests the time of their lives.

Accommodations are now available.  The 6th Annual Brewridge Music Festival will also be held at the lodge May 4th.
