RAINELLE, W. Va (WVVA)-- A man is behind bars after allegedly attempting to stab another man, then running from the scene.

Chief JP Stevens with the Rainelle Police Department said 52-year-old Michael Dallas Mitchell of Rainelle was attempting to stab another man with a knife at a residence First Street in Rainelle Tuesday night.

Stevens said Mitchell was very intoxicated.

The victim was able to get away from Mitchell and lock himself in a room to call 911. He was not injured, Stevens said.

When police arrived at the residence the responding officer, Patrolman J. L. Stevens, advised Mitchell to drop his weapon, and he complied. Then, after a chase, the patrolman was able to place him under arrest.

Chief Stevens said Mitchell was argumentative with police and using profanity.

Mitchell is charged with brandishing a deadly weapon, trespassing while armed, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication.

He has been transported to Southern Regional Jail and will be arraigned Wednesday before a magistrate.
