Marshall med school gets more research space

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Marshall University's medical school is acquiring more space for research and development.

The university announced Monday that the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will sublease 2,100 square feet of space in the university's Forensic Science Center Annex from the Huntington Area Development Council. Researchers will use the space to investigate the causes of kidney disease and hypertension as well as conduct clinical trials on medications to improve heart function and decrease body weight.

The new space is an area of the annex designated for research and biotechnology startup companies when the facility was built.
