BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Students at Virginia Tech will pay higher tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year.

Tech's Board of Visitors approved increases on Sunday that will raise annual in-state tuition and fees by $532 to $11,455. Out-of-state students will pay $27,211, a $1,296 increase.

Students who live on campus will pay an average $7,650 in room and board fees, a $396 increase.

A comprehensive fee that supports student services, athletics, health service and other student activities will increase by $79 to $1,752.

Tech says in a news release that an in-state undergraduate student who lives on campus will pay a total $19,105. The total cost for an out-of-state student living on campus will be $34,858.

Tech's board also increased the school's student financial aid budget by about $1 million
