UPDATE: Bomb Threat at Stevens Correctional Facility

WELCH (WVVA)--- Police say that the bomb threat that was received Sunday morning came from a public telephone.

State Police in Welch say that one the threat was received all inmates were taken out of the building and into the inmate yard.

A foot search was conducted and nothing suspicious was found.

Shortly after a bomb K-9 unit swept the building.

State Police in Welch are investigating the threat.


WELCH (WVVA)--- Police have cleared the scene at Stevens Correctional Facility where a bomb threat was called in early Sunday.

McDowell County 911 says the scene was cleared around 3:00 P.M.

Attempts to reach law enforcement for comment were unsuccessful.

WELCH (WVVA)--- Police have locked down a prison in McDowell County after a threat was received about a bomb being inside the prison.

McDowell County 911 says that a threat was called into the Stevens Correctional Facility around 10:00 A.M. Sunday Morning.

The McDowell County Sheriff's Department, State Police, and the Welch Police Department are all on the scene.

Police are waiting on a K-9 unit to arrive to inspect the facility.
