Ex-linebacker pens 'stadium thumper' song for WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- Ex-Mountaineer Grant Wiley has written a "stadium thumper" for his alma mater -- a song he thinks West Virginia University should use to pump up fans at every football game.

Wiley says the electronic-fusion "Mountaineer Nation" beats the tune his teammates used to hear: It was Madonna's "Hey, Mr. DJ."

Nothing against the queen of pop, Wiley says, but that's not the right music for crushing opponents.

Wiley grew up in Trappe, Pa., and signed with the Minnesota Vikings after his college career ended in 2003.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting says Wiley remains WVU's leader in tackles, solo tackles and forced fumbles.

He left the NFL after a shoulder injury to pursue acting and music, then formed Gn8 with Daniel Ochoa.

Their song played before the recent Gold-Blue Game.
