CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Two technicians who confessed to tampering with video lottery machines have been fined and placed on six months' probation.

The West Virginia Lottery Commission handed down the punishments Thursday against two workers for Shafer Amusements.

The Daily Mail reports that Kenneth Howell and Lawson Magnum told commission members they tampered with switches inside 10 of the Clarksburg company's video lottery machines.

The two said they bypassed broken switches as a way to quickly get the machines back in operation.

Commission members fined Howell and Mangum $1,000 each and placed them on probation.

The commission also levied a $10,000 fine against Shafer Amusements, $1,000 for each tampered machine.
