University of Charleston hosts Davisson Brothers Band Saturday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Davisson Brothers Band and special guest Owen Schmitt will rock the University of Charleston's Riverfront Lawn as part of UC Preview Day this Saturday.

The concert kicks off at 4 p.m. with opening band Joe Taxi, and the Davisson Brothers follow at 5 p.m.
High school students and their families can attend the concert for free by being a part of UC Preview Day from 1-4 p.m. Attendees will tour campus, take part in a scavenger hunt, learn about academic programs at UC, visit with faculty, and be treated to a steak dinner on the riverbank. Students will also be entered to win prizes such as a Kindle Fire.

Tickets for the public are $10. Band members and Schmitt will be available after the concert for autographs and pictures.

The Davisson Brothers Band has a unique style infusing a remarkable blend of country, southern rock, and bluegrass to create a distinctive sound captured in their first single, "Big City Hillbilly." This sound, combined with the band's talent and energy, has gained a loyal fan base all over the Eastern United States. Schmitt, a West Virginia football legend and NFL fullback, will throw in his own musical flair.
Based out of Martinsburg, Joe Taxi is an acoustic-driven three piece, featuring Christian Lopez, Alex Shanholtzer, and Michael Silver. With high energy, musical precision, and unwavering youth, Joe Taxi will keep you on your feet the entire time. Lopez was featured on the hit television show "American Idol" in 2012, earning a ticket to Hollywood and a spot in the show's semifinals.

The 2012-13 academic year marks UC's 125th anniversary as an academic institution. UC was founded in 1888 as Barboursville Seminary, renamed Morris Harvey College in 1901, moved to Charleston in 1935 and was renamed the University of Charleston in 1978.
