National Volunteer Week kicks off in the two Virginias

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- National Volunteer Week is a time to give back to the community, and recognize those who already do.

"So many times they respond, whether it's times of natural disaster or rather its everyday living. You look at every civic organization we have, and they're comprised of volunteers," says Rep. Nick Rahall, (D)West Virginia, at the Beckley kick-off.

The Raleigh County Community Action Association is using this week as a call to action for volunteers across the two Virginias.

"This week gives you an excuse to get out and do it. If you've been wanting to volunteer, this is a great time to start," says Bobbi Thomas-Bailey, executive director for RCCAA. "We can find something for everyone to do. No matter what your qualifications or limitations, we can find something that you can do to help out."

At a time when budgets are tight, many groups are depending on volunteers now more than ever.
