Family Awareness Conference is held this year in May

OAK HILL, W,Va - Just For Kids, Inc Child Advocacy Center will be sponsoring the third Family Awareness conference on Thursday, May 9th from 8:30-4pm at the Lewis Community Center in Oak Hill.

Executive Director of Just For Kids, Scott Miller said " This promises to be a conference to remember". "The keynote speaker, Reverend Darrell Armstrong, is a dynamic, engaging speaker. He is a national and global advocate for the prevention of child abuse and family dysfunction, while also focusing on family strengths and strengthening families." " In addition, there will be ten other break out sessions from Trauma Informed Practice to Internet Safety, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and Engaging the Religious Community in Protecting Children." Mr. Miller stresses that this conference will make a difference in Southern West Virginia as we work together to help families find their strengths.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month, and this conference will use many of the lessons learned in April, and follow up with some action steps that everyone in the community can take to strengthen families and foster positive outcomes for all children. Children who are read to at least three times a week start school ready to learn and are able to master reading and language skills more quickly. An adult's attitude is key to a child's successful learning. Singing, talking and playing with young children activates the construction of their developing brain and has a positive impact on their future learing and career success. Kids who regularly eat dinner with their family are healthier, better adjusted emotionally, and have high self-esteem. To learn more about what you can do to support children in the community go to
