Rainelle's Centennial Celebration fast approaching

RAINELLE, W. Va (WVVA)-- The Town of Rainelle is preparing for a special celebration.

It's commemorating 100 years in a weekend full of activities, from a singing competition (Rainelle Centennial Idol) to tours of the new Rainelle Elementary School, to live music and a parade.

The town is even holding a muzzle-loader and an archery competition.

The opening ceremony begins at 12:30 PM on April 25th. We will have more details on the events as the date approaches.

Rainelle mayor Andy Pendleton said the event is all about remembering the town's past while looking forward to its future.

"It's bringing back memories about why the town was created, and all about infrastructure," she said, citing the railroad system and coal mines that made Rainelle a booming town after it was founded.

"We're really excited about people coming to our town," she added.
