LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Students gathered in Greenbrier County on Wednesday to showcase their music talents to the community.

Schools including White Sulphur Springs, Rainelle, Frankford, Alderson, Rupert, Eastern Greenbrier Middle, and Western Greenbrier Middle schools brought bands and choirs to perform at the Lewisburg Mall for the Greenbrier County Music Showcase.

Educators say it was all about promoting music in schools and showing the community how skills with music can enrich a student's life.

"The music in our schools gives the children something to latch onto," said Dell Wood, a music teacher at Lewisburg Elementary School. "It gives the children the presence to stand in front of people and not be afraid to be in front of a crowd."

Parent Dina Vaughan said music gave her daughter discipline, something she can use in every aspect of her life.

More student groups including those from including Crichton, Ronceverte, and Lewisburg schools will perform at the showcase tomorrow.
