TAZEWELL (WVVA) -- A local runner who crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon minutes before a pair of bombs exploded has returned home to Tazewell County.

Tazewell native Lee Hunter and her family narrowly escaped the devastation.

She recounted her incredible story to WVVA's Rachel Lucas Wednesday.

"It was so loud that you felt it in your heart," Hunter recalled. "Everyone turned around me that moment and we all knew that it was a bomb and then in only twelve seconds it went off again. There was just huge smoke and red fire."

After the explosion, Hunter says her first thoughts were finding her husband and daughter who came to watch her run. Seeking them amongst the mayhem is something she describes as terrifying.

"It was chaotic. It was like something you see on TV or a movie. Everyone just running and fear."

Hunter's family was a block away from the blast and unharmed.

Hunter has participated in the marathon 18 times before, and says this year's terror-marred event won't be her last.
