Lewisburg Chocolate Festival a big hit in Greenbrier Co.

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Hundreds came out for the Lewisburg Chocolate Festival in Greenbrier County.

This is the seventh year of the festival in town.

There were 38 locations for patrons to visit and exchange their tickets for treats like truffles, cheesecake brownie bites, chocolate covered strawberries, mousse, even chocolate alcoholic beverages like beer and martinis.

Lewisburg mayor John Manchester said, "This is a time where people put together their best creations. it's awesome.

"It brings a lot of people to town," he added.

People like Linda Blankenship from Oceana, who came to the festival for the first time this year.

"We didn't really have a game plan, we just played it by ear. We ordered our tickets online and we've been excited and planning for months," said Linda. "It's great."

This was the biggest one yet, organizers told WVVA.

Also a part of the festival-- a 10k run beforehand in which 250 people came out to race.

The event was called the Annual Hospice Care Chocolate Chase, which also included a 1-mile fun walk in which 80 people participated.

Runners like Megan Pesyna said running for a cause like that made all the hard work even more worth it.

"When you're running it for something,it's just like, 'I have a reason to be doing this.'" she said. "It's kind of more of a motivation. You pick up your pace and you think about that when you're running. It makes you go faster."

The race began at the Greenbrier Valley Airport and ended at the Greenbrier County Courthouse. Family and friends gathered at the finish line to greet the runners as they arrived.

Organizers said this was the biggest turnout for the run, which raised $7000 for Hospice Care.
