MARLINTON, W. Va (WVVA)-- Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management has sent out a message regarding a new phone scam.

They said people in Pocahontas County have been experiencing the scam, which they said targets Mon Power customers in the area.

The full message is below:

 

GREENBRIER COUNTY ALERT--

This is an important message from the WV State Police - Marlinton Detachment.

Greenbrier County Homeland Security & Emergency Management has been notified that residents of nearby Pocahontas County have experienced a telephone scam targeting Mon Power customers in our area. Residents are being called and informed that they must immediately send money to the caller to prevent electric service disruption.

If you receive a call such as this, please do not send any money. Hang up immediately and call 911 or the State Police at 304-799-4101.
