CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Two women who were shot by a gunman at a community college in southwest Virginia are reported to be in stable condition.

A spokeswoman for the Christiansburg Police Department reported their conditions Saturday, one day after the shootings at a satellite campus of New River Community College.

One of the victims is a part-time teacher at the college. The other is a students at NRCC.

Spokeswoman Becky Wilburn said the women's names or additional information on their injuries would not be released, citing privacy concerns.

Both victims are being treated in Roanoke, about 35 miles away.

An 18-year-old student at the college has been charged in the shootings. Investigators say they don't know what motivated the shootings by the suspect, Neil Allan MacInnis.

He is being held without bail.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (AP) - An 18-year-old student is behind bars, charged with shooting and injuring two women at a mall branch of a southwestern Virginia community college.

Christiansburg Police Chief Mark Sisson said Friday evening that Neil MacInnis of Christiansburg was charged with two counts each of malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was being held without bond at the Montgomery County Jail.

Authorities are still trying to establish a motive and any connection between MacInnis and the victims.

Sisson says MacInnis was subdued at New River Valley Mall minutes after he entered the satellite campus of New River Community College around 2 p.m. Friday.

1 of the victims was airlifted to the hospital and the other was taken by ambulance. Officials did not provide any update on their conditions.

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WVVA) - A suspect is in custody after two women were shot at the satellite campus of New River Valley Community College inside the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg.

One woman was transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital. The other was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital.

Their conditions are unknown at this time. The names of the suspect and victims have not been released.

The first calls about the shooting were received at approximately 1:55 p.m. Police were on scene by 2 p.m. according to information released by authorities at a 3 p.m. news conference.

The mall was placed on lockdown following the shooting.

Montgomery County Schools were also temporarily placed on lockdown. It has since been lifted.

Police said during the news conference that there was no longer a continuing threat to the community.
