Researchers say many veterans with limb injuries have more problems with pain and mental health

WEST VIRGINIA (WVVA)-Researchers say many veterans who suffer serious limb injuries have lingering problems with pain and mental health.

A study of almost 300 service personnel harmed in combat found they had little improvement in symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD and other problems two years after their injury.

Although their pain showed the most improvement three to six months post-injury there was little progress after one year.

Experts say these results suggest these veterans need ongoing pain management and psychological care to help them cope with the long lasting effects of their injury.
