Manchin comments on 'Buckwild' cancellation

WASHINGTON (WVVA) - A well-known critic of MTV's 'Buckwild' is sharing his thoughts on its cancellation.

On Wednesday, MTV announced the show was being canceled after the death of one of the show's stars, 21-year old Shain Gandee.

Gandee, his uncle and friend died from carbon monoxide poisoning after the Ford Bronco they were riding in became stuck in the mud.

Sen. Joe Manchin, who spoke out against the show before it began airing, says his heart goes out to the families, but points out the show was never a "reality show" because it never depicted in a reality setting how youth in West Virginia act on a day-to-day basis.

"It was truly an entertainment show," Manchin said. "It was poor entertainment, and one
I never watched or cared to watch, but it was entertainment.

"If they made the decision because of how bad the entertainment was and it should not have been on, that's a decision they had to make.  If they made the decision to pull the 'Buckwild' TV show because they called it a reality show and they found out it wasn't reality, I applaud them for that."
