Man killed in fall from Wise Co. waterfall ID'ed

ST. PAUL, Va. (AP) -- Police have identified a man who died after he fell in a creek and was swept over a waterfall in Wise County.

The Bristol Herald Courier reports that 22-year-old Travis Gage Jessee of Dante in Russell County slipped on rocks after he entered Russell Creek.

A report by Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes says the current carried Jessee over the waterfall and onto rocks below. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Oakes says Jessee was hiking with friends when the accident occurred Sunday.

On Monday, a Liberty University student died after she fell while hiking at Crabtree Falls in Nelson County.

Police say 18-year-old Faith Helbig of New Jersey had crossed safety barriers designed to keep hikers at a safe distance.
