CHARLESTON (WVVA) - MTV announced the cancellation of its West-Virginia based reality show 'Buckwild' Wednesday -- a week after the death of one of its stars.

Entertainment news website TMZ.com cited sources close to the show on Tuesday who said MTV decided to pull the plug on the series.

The network made the announcement official on Wednesday.

Four episodes for the second season had been shot before the death of Shain Gandee last week.

Gandee, his uncle and a friend were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning in Gandee's Ford Bronco, which had become stuck in the mud during a late-night four-wheeling excursion in a remote area near Sissonville.

Producer of the series J.P. Williams told the Hollywood Reporter he was initially told by MTV last Friday that the series would continue, only to be told on Tuesday that the network had decided to cancel the show.

Williams said he intends to continue the series in some form.
