Concord University theatre department presents student directed plays

ATHENS, W.Va. The CU Theatre Department directing class will be presenting "Dogs, Ducks, Lizards, and the Mafia: An Evening of Student Directed Plays" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday April 10th in the main auditorium. The auditorium is located in the Alexander Fine Arts Center on Concord's main campus in Athens, W.Va.

The students presenting this production are Charles S. Wallace, Greg Stamp, Ainsley Miller, and Rebecca Creel. Each student director will be presenting his or her own show. Miller will be presenting "A Visit," Wallace will be presenting "The Story of Jerry and the Dog," Stamp will be presenting "Of Ducks and Men," and Creel will be presenting "Lizard Escape." Each student director took the time to choose his or her own piece and held auditions to cast the members who would star in each production.

"My production is the ‘mafia' bit of the title," says Miller, a senior theater major. "I chose this show because it's hilarious; I laughed out loud while reading it and liked it, so that's why I chose it."

Miller also said this about her experience in the class so far. "We had to pick a one act play or an act from a full length play and direct it. We've learned about the process of directing and how to go about it. I never realized how difficult it is to audition people for roles in the cast. It's different to look at it that way and gives me a new perspective."

"Dogs, Ducks, Lizards, and the Mafia: An Evening of Student Directed Plays" is free and reservations are not needed.
