Students work hands-on with robotic surgical technology

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Students at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine got a chance to view new medical technology on Thursday.

It's called a DaVinci Surgical System, used by surgeons at Raleigh General Hospital to conduct procedures using smaller incisions. They say it allows for faster patient recovery time.

Physicians sit in the console and control the robotic arms' tiny instruments, which are as small as a fingertip.

Doctors say it allows them to be more precise than ever.

Educators at WVSOM said the students appreciated the chance to get hands on with the state-of-the-art technology that is being used to treat patients locally.
