March among coldest on record in 3 W.Va. cities

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- If you think March was unusually cold, you're right.

The National Weather Service says March was one of the coldest on record in three West Virginia cities. Several other cities experienced below normal temperatures for the month.

March was the sixth coldest in Beckley, where the average monthly temperature was 35.3 degrees.

Huntington experienced its 10th coldest March with an average temperature of 40.2 degrees.

Charleston's average temperature of 39.7 degrees tied with March 1971 for the city's 10th coldest March.

Morgantown's average temperature of 39.5 degrees was 2.6 degrees below normal.

The average temperature in Bluefield was 37.3 degrees, 8 degrees below normal.

Martinsburg's average temperature was 39.7 degrees, 2.3 degrees below normal.
