PRINCETON (WVVA) - Bond reduction was denied Thursday for a former Mercer County teacher accused of sexual misconduct involving several students.

Jonathan Kirk appeared before Judge Derek Swope in Princeton Thursday. Swope ruled against bond for Kirk saying Kirk posed a high flight risk.

Kirk was a physical education teacher and assistant coach at PikeView High School when the alleged sex crimes occurred.

Kirk is charged with sexual abuse, and is also accused of using minors to film sexually explicit conduct and using obscene matter with intent to seduce a minor.

Kirk waived his preliminary hearing earlier this week. He was arrested last week after a state police investigation into the allegations.

Kirk had previously resigned his position with Mercer County Schools in January amid the investigation.

He's being held at Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond.
