PRINCETON (WVVA) - A manager of the Mercer County DMV office is arrested and charged with embezzlement.

Rhonda Thomas of Princeton was arrested after she allegedly embezzled more than $13,000 over a period of time.

The Division of Motor Vehicles confirms that Thomas was employed as a manager of the Princeton Office.

Trooper Graham with the Princeton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police says he was notified about the embezzlement Tuesday morning from the Division of Motor Vehicles in Charleston.

"Based on evidence it appears the suspect stole the money over a period of time," Graham said.

According to the criminal complaint, Thomas admitted to taking cash from the DMV money bags since the summer of 2012.

Details in the criminal complaint outline Thomas's admitted scheme of signing the Loomis cash transport log stating she would take the money to the bank, but instead keeping the money to herself.

Thomas told investigators she has a major gambling addiction and that she was using the money to pay off her gambling debts.

Thomas was arraigned before Magistrate Rick Fowler around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, and released on $1000.00 personal recognizance bond.
