Maintenance workers strive to keep endurance and supplies strong as winter ends

Posted:

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Crews have been working to clear roads across the region.

At last check, Raleigh County Public Works said the 114 miles of road that they're accountable for are all clear, and they'll be treating them again as this round of winter weather continues.

All together this season though, they say they've cleared about five feet of snow off the streets.

Even though they expect to work twelve hour days, some of the guys say after five months of winter weather, they're ready for a break.

"Mentally it can get challenging, especially if you work all day doing something, and they say, well it's going to snow tonight, then you've got guys who have to come out and work a 12 hour shift. That can be a challenge," says street inspector, Jerry Stump.

Since this has been a long season, they understand some residents might be worried about salt supplies running low, but they want residents to rest assured -- they have enough to last a few more months still.
