UPDATE:

Investigators are still working to identify the victim of a fire on Mill Creek Road in Hines.

Police believe it may be Patricia Blake, but said they can't know for sure until the medical examiner confirms that information.

Sergeant D.A. Evans with the West Virginia State Police said, "It was Patricia Ann Blake's residence, we do know that. And we did recover the body of an adult female."

He added that both the woman's identity and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.

Community members are taking the loss hard.

Blake's neighbor, Roger Brackenridge, said, "Anytime anybody needed any help, she was right there to help you. If you needed anything, she was always there. It hit hard, it hit really hard, I couldn't believe it."

Rainelle firefighter Matt Osborne said when he and the first crew of firefighters arrived on the scene Tuesday afternoon, the back of the house was engulfed in flames, and spreading quickly. It was very smoky inside the home, he told WVVA.

Osborne said Rainelle, Quinwood, Clintonville, Smoot, Alderson, and Rupert fire departments responded to the blaze. Meadow Bridge's department was on standby.
