Federal Funds Provide New Mining Program to WV


WILLIAMSON (WVVA) - After receiving a federal grant Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College is able to develop education programs for students looking to work in the mining industry.

Representative Nick Rahall says the school will receive $892,00 over the next three years for its "Comprehensive Career Pathways and Programs in Coal Mining" project which will allow a higher education program for those interested in mining.

The project offers students enrolled in four programs academic and technical education and managerial skills development to meet the needs of the mining industry. The programs are electrical engineering technology, mining engineering, mine management and mine technology.

The funding is awarded by the National Science Foundation.
