Federal employees plan to protest sequestration

BECKLEY (WVVA) -- Federal employees will rally outside the Federal Court House in Beckley to protest across the board budget cuts known as the sequestration.

The event is one of about 100 rallies taking place across the country on March 20 as part of a mass demonstration organized by the American Federation of Government Employees. Events are taking place outside federal agencies and lawmaker's offices to highlight the impact of sequestration.

"Federal employees are hard-working Americans just like everyone else and forcing them to take pay cuts of between 20 and 40 percent will have a direct impact on our local economy, " said Charlie Yates, President of AFGE Local 480, FCI McDowell, WV. "Less money in their pockets means less money to spend locally on food, clothing, and other goods and services."

The rally will take place March 20, 2013 at the Federal Court House in Beckley from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
