Senate votes on bill that would make marriage voidable

Posted:

CHARLESTON, W.V. (WVVA) -- The West Virginia Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill that would make a marriage voidable in particular situations.

On Friday the Senate will take a vote that if either party, without the other's knowledge has been convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in jail, the marriage is voidable.

The bill's supporter, Senator Donald Cookman, said the bill was intended to make the language regarding crimes uniform with other parts of the state code.

Cookman also said that the other reasons for voiding a marriage should be looked at.
