FAYETTE COUNTY, W.V. (WVVA)---The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the Alloy area of Fayette County early this morning.
Sheriff Steve Kessler released the following information concerning this ongoing investigation:
At approximately 3:49 am on Thursday, March 14, 2013 notification was received thru the Fayette County 911 Center of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Go-Mart convenience store located on U.S. Route 60 in Alloy, WV. It was reported that the suspect had fled from the scene on foot towards Gauley Bridge.
Upon arrival at the scene Deputies spoke with the cashier at the Go-Mart. He reported that at approximately 3:43 am on Thursday, March 14, 2013 a white male approached the night transaction window of this store and requested two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and two packs of Sonoma cigarettes. (Customers at this business are not permitted to enter the store after midnight, and all transactions are handled thru a sliding cash drawer in the side of the building.) After the clerk placed these items on the counter and rang them up, he reported that the suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register, four additional cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and three White Owl Blunts grape-flavored cigars. The clerk then put the money from the cash register and the tobacco products into a bag and passed the bag thru the night transaction window to the suspect. The suspect then fled on foot in the direction of Gauley Bridge.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-08 to 5-10, with a slim build, and unshaven with dark-colored facial hair. He was described as wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with his facial features partially obscured by the hood. The handgun brandished by the suspect was described as a dark-colored semi-automatic pistol, possibly a Glock, with green fibre-optic sights. In addition to the tobacco products, the suspect is reported to have stolen just over $200.00 in cash during this robbery.
Deputies were able to recover some video surveillance footage of the crime, but this video evidence is currently being analyzed and is not available for release at this time. Evidence gathered at the scene indicates that the suspect probably entered a vehicle parked in the area of the Alloy Employees Federal Credit Union near the entrance to the Elkem Metals plant and then continued East on U.S. Route 60 towards Gauley Bridge. It has not yet been determined if the suspect had an accomplice in the commission of this crime.
This incident remains under investigation by Lieutenant L.A. Crisp and the Detective Bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
