Gov. McDonnell Pushing for Highway Money

Posted:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell met with Virginia's delegation to Congress Wednesday and pressed them about pending automatic federal spending cuts and money needed for his transportation funding legislation.

McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin says the governor huddled privately with Virginia's House and Senate members on Capitol Hill for about an hour.

Besides the cuts and their effect on Virginia, McDonnell inquired about federal legislation to allow states to collect taxes on out-of-state and catalog sales. A major part of the bipartisan transportation bill passed last month relies on it.

McDonnell also asked about legislation authorizing offshore oil and gas drilling. He also discussed federal waivers to implement cost-saving Medicaid reforms he's demanding before expanding the program in Virginia to about 400,000 additional working poor.
