Construction on pool in Greenbrier Co. to resume

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Construction will resume on a constroversial project.

The Greenbrier County Commission had been working with the New River Community and Technical College in Lewisburg to create a Fine Arts and Aquatic Center, before a group of citizens filed a lawsuit against them.

The renovated building would include a pool the public could use.

The Greenbrier County Commission voted 2-1 to donate $1.3 million to the project, a decision the concerned citizens opposed.

Judge Vickers, assigned to the case, has now given the college permission to proceed with the project "as planned."

A letter from the judge was read at Tuesday's commission meeting.

According to David Nalker of the college's Board of Governors, Vickers did not allow the college to intervene in the case because the commission's and the college's interests in the matter were the same.

But construction on the Fine Arts and Aquatic Center, previously halted due to the lawsuit, will resume according to Vickers' ruling, he said.
