Ban on Pit bulls in Bluefield proposed

Posted:

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA)--- Pit Bulls could be a thing of the past in Bluefield if the Board of Directors passes the ordinance to ban them.

Tuesday at the Board of Directors meeting, the members voted to begin work on an ordinance that would ban Pit Bulls in the city of Bluefield.

There are currently strict laws in place for people who own this breed of dogs. They must be kept indoors or caged as well as be muzzled and on a lease when they leave the homes. The dogs must also be registered with the Bluefield Police Department.

City attorney Brian Cochran says the ordinance would allow current Pit Bull owners who follow the existing laws keep theirs.
