Greenbrier Co. braces for winter storm

LEWISBURG, W. Va (WVVA)-- Local highway crews spent Tuesday preparing for the storm.

Crews at the Department of Highways in Greenbrier County have already done a lot of salt treatment to combat the ice throughout the past weekend.

They say this will help them clear the roads faster when the snow begins to fall, and temperatures drop.

Administrators told WVVA the type of snow forecasted, wet snow, is also easier for them to work with.

"We can get right down to the pavement with our plows [in wet snow]," said Pat McCabe with the Greenbrier County DOH.

"We'll come back after we hit our primary roads and give them some salt treatment. The roads just clear up faster. The salt works better and it clears up quicker," he said.

A total of over 20 trucks will be plowing and dumping salt on Greenbrier County roads when the storm hits.

McCabe said they feel confident about their plan of attack.
